Our History
Established in 1980 as a sole proprietorship, Roger Duerksen & Associates focused on legislative advocacy, lobbying for associations and association management for advocacy clients. In 1982 the company expanded to include full association management, and in 1989 became incorporated as Association & Society Management Company, Inc. (ASM). After operating for seven years under the ASM name, the company saw a change in the association industry, and in 1995 the name was changed to Association Resource Center, Inc. (ARC) — a move designed to more accurately reflect the company’s commitment to serving the association community. In 2001, Duerksen sold ARC to its three Division Presidents, Alan Clarke, Debbe Dreher and Stephen Hamilton. Mr. Clarke sold his interests to Ms. Dreher and Mr. Hamilton later that year. Acquisitions in 2004 (The Messersmith Group) and 2007 (Outsource Management Group) led to ARC becoming the Sacramento area’s largest AMC. Due to declining health, Mr. Hamilton assigned his half of the business to Ms. Dreher in August of 2014. In 2020, Camron King took the helm of ARC as Ms. Dreher moves toward retirement.
Our Home
ARC is very proud of its headquarters office located just minutes away from downtown Sacramento in the gold rush town of Folsom. Our professional office suite features two well-equipped conference rooms (for both staff and client use), state-of-the-art computer and reproduction equipment, on-site storage, tons of free parking, and a team of employees dedicated to their profession and our client partners.
From the moment you enter our office and are greeted by our affable receptionist (who, by the way, answers all incoming phone calls in the name of our various client associations) to the time you depart, our goal is to make everyone feel like they are part of the ARC family.
We understand the importance of associations preserving their individual identity and maintaining their independence. We work to ensure each client’s customs, beliefs, and values are protected, nurtured and preserved. With this in mind, each ARC client organization is provided its own telephone number and email address. Each client is listed separately in the telephone and building directory under its own name, and all communications bears the association name and identity.
